CHARACTER

character name | Sinbad - given the full name of Sinbad ibn Badr Ahl-Tison – shorten to Sinbad Tison by immigration bureaucracy - for AU purposes as he has no patronym or surname in canon
age | 30
subject | Near East Languages
gender | Male
appearance | He appears as a clean-shaven man of middle-eastern descent with wavy, inky black hair that has an almost violet sheen in bright light with a stubborn cowlick and amber-colored eyes, standing about six feet in height with a broad-shouldered, muscular build that he is quite proud of. Sinbad often looks like he's on the verge of breaking out into a broad grin, though he has a worry line between his thick, dark brows.

Sinbad dresses mostly in western clothes – black or navy suits, but with a touch of “The Orient” – hooped earrings, and wearing slightly more jewelry than considered appropriate – jeweled cuff-links, an elaborate watch-chain, and several rings on his fingers. And despite prohibition (and the misconceptions others may have of his private life) he carries a pewter hip flask in an inside coat pocket. When going outdoors, he wears a bowler hat – liking it because it covers his cowlick and it doesn’t blow away easily in the wind.

While he has no current use for them, he has a keffiyeh and other traditional clothes in storage in case he needs it.

history | History - Missing some key events from the prequel manga.

-Sinbad meets Yunan, who unbeknownest to him was a Magi, and he was encouraged to enter the Dungeon Baal, making a friend out of Commander Drakon, and obtaining the Djinn Baal before fleeing the country.

-He ends up in Imuchakk, meeting Hinahoho, and having to rescue him from Valefor's Dungeon while being tailed by Drakon, Ja'far and his cohorts, he ends up rescuing the latter, gaining their loyalty as he reveals his goal is to create a country to make a world without war.

-Sinbad goes to Reim to found a Trading Company, and once established, he sets off to Sasan and Artemyra to open trade - and more importantly set up an alliance for his future country.

-Once he returns, he discovers that a rival merchant has tricked his company into going into debt, and he makes a risky gamble to save it, resulting in him becoming a slave to a cruel woman who uses torture and psychological manipulation to turn slaves into her obedient children. He eventually snaps out of her control and regained his freedom from his rebellion and his friends pulling their own con to force the slaver into debt, forcing her to turn everything over to them.

-With that over, and at least a dozen kids under their care, Sinbad decided now was the time to found their country and they set off to discover unclaimed territory.

This is where the Prequel finishes, as it's still on-going.

AU history | Sinbad was born among a minority ethnic group in the Ottomon Empire in what is now Iraq to a disabled war veteran and a kind, but sickly mother, unfortunately when he was seven, his father was killed during the young turk’s rebellion, the seemingly senseless violence caused him to hold a life-long hatred for war and strife.

As a child, he had shown an exceptional gift for languages, picking them up quite quickly as he obtained a job as courier and translator in Medina. There he drew the attention of both foreign merchants and intelligence officers for his quick wits and his charm, finding his quick skills with languages and easy manner worth the cost of training him to fit into polite society – a lesson Sinbad eagerly takes to, wanting to improve his lot in life, and discovered he especially loved writing.

Initially he stuck strictly to business – refusing to risk getting involved with the spy business but desiring the coin of foreigners to buy medical treatments for his mother, traveling to Europe and America with Turkish Bankers, becoming a bit of a minor celebrity thanks to the Western fascination with “Orientalism” and his seemingly endless bounty of exotic tales. Meanwhile, he found many aspects of their culture quite fascinating, and made friends in various places. When his mother eventually passed away from illness, Sinbad decided to dabble in some espionage as he no longer had to worry about putting his love ones in danger.

But when the Great World War broke out, Sinbad returned to his home country to try to save his people from the bloodshed, and became entangled with the British-backed Arabic rebellion. As he vowed to be a pacifist, he took non-combat roles, helping to evacuate civilians from future war zones, and heading to Damascus and other key cities to gather intelligence to pass on. Whether he took a more hands on approach in securing victory for the rebels is unknown and he prefers not to talk about it, though it’s when he started to become known as an avid drinker.

Once the war ended, he – like many of those who fought with a certain British intelligence officer became disillusioned to find that the promises made to them for their own homeland had been broken; some made do by living in the newly formed Iraq, but Sinbad chose to leave entirely and immigrated to America, eventually getting a job with the boarding school thanks to some connections he made. He initially had considered it a temporary position until he gets a position elsewhere or his attempts at publishing a novel or screenplay succeeds, but he discovered he genuinely enjoys teaching and finds himself conflicted.

personality | Sinbad initially comes across as a hedonistic goofball and even an airhead, a man who wakes up after being robbed blind, and seemed unaware that people would react badly to a naked stranger walking towards them. The man is lover of wine, women, and song – especially women, to the point where he has a notorious reputation for unchivalrous behavior when intoxicated, flirting with anything in a skirt. The man is also known to sulk and pout when he not does get his own way, and shirks paperwork because he gets frustrated with work that has no visible pay off, while he can buckle down if he can see some reward for his efforts.

He also has a strong adventurous streak, being the only man in the Magi world who conquered seven dungeons and having travelled all over the world to do so. While he’s no longer allowed to enter dungeons, and as a King he is no longer able to travel as he pleased, he enjoys the times he’s allowed to travel, and is eager to hear stories of other people’s adventures. In Clarion this means he will jump at any chance to travel, and had been in almost every global power by the time he turned 23, and enjoyed every moment, and will take vacations overseas during summer break if he can get away with it, and will be become bored and listless if made to stay indoors for extended periods of time due to bad weather.

He has an easy, gregarious manner that makes people like him quickly, being someone with a very generous personality, quick to reward people that do him a favor. Sinbad is loyal to the people around him – and even considered the subjects of his kingdom to be part of an extended family. The man also has a strong empathic streak, being lulled into showing pity for Judal after the latter’s full display of crocodile tears, despite the fact that moments before Judal had broken Sindria’s protective barrier and threatened to kill him. Then there is the fact half of his generals were people that tried to kill him at one point or another, but he forgave them all and brought them to his side without a second thought. He is also is shown to get along with children, playing with them during a party in Imuchakk and during the time he was enslaved and brainwashed, he forbid the use of harsh punishments on the child slaves and took extreme concern for their health, showing even when “broken in” that his compassion still shines through. In Clarion this meant he is a pacifist by nature, and takes an exceptional concern for the well-being of students and staff members, even to the point of putting his nose in other people’s businesses.

For him, the worst possible thing is the idea that his allies start to hate and distrust him, becoming visibly upset to nearly the point of tears when his generals seem to believe he had assaulted a woman while drunk (he was proven innocent). He also shows immense guilt as a teenager when his actions leads harm to others, to the point after he instigated a slave rebellion, he begged his friend to kill him, because he felt that he took advantage of the slaves’ trust and put them into harm’s way, even though it was the only option he had to get freed. He wants people to trust him and more importantly, he wants to be the person who deserves that trust.

Then once people see past the “Airhead of the Seven Seas”, they will discover that he is a… mostly honorable monarch and a deadly warrior. While he shows signs of his thrill-seeking ways when he was young during spars – especially when using a Djinn full equip – he turns deadly serious when faced with a true life or death situation. Sinbad uses everything at his disposal to fight a dangerous foe, even things most would consider dishonorable – for example, he uses mind control magic to force Kouha to surrender, viewing the violation of Kougyoku’s mind a reasonable cost if it meant saving hundreds if not thousands of lives by forcing the civil war in Kou to end quickly. As a king dealing with diplomacy, he is fair but firm – refusing to budge on his issues, but careful enough to not be belligerent.

But underneath it all is a mind like a steel trap, quick to seize opportunities as they come into place, and willing to manipulate others – even going as far as to plant a hypnotic suggestion in Kougyoku’s mind – to get what he wants. It’s easy to assume that his power plays and manipulations meant that he does not care for the people that he used as pawns. Nothing can be further from the truth – when asked about his ‘slyness’ by Jafar, he gave a pained expression, and admitted that he became the sort of person he hated, but stated that he felt that was the only way he can operate if he wants to stop The Organization and protect smaller nations from expansionist empires. Then there was the crushed look on his face when Kougyoku confessed her crush to him when all the while he was using it to get her to become an unwittingly spy on the Kou Empire. And since he started using people, he felt that he’s gone too far to stop, so all he can do is move forwards. But as a rule, even if he just sees someone as a tool, he usually tries to angle it so that the results of his schemes will benefit them as well. While he does not have near the level of responsibility of a king in the AU, as someone who was involved with espionage and rebellion, he often ended up weighing his actions to decide what would be for the greater good, and often found himself performing unsavory acts with the goal of reducing bloodshed wherever he could, with the view that saving life is the highest priority he should have.

It’s key to note that everything about Sinbad as written is true to his character, none of the drinking, womanizing, or childish behaviors is a font – he’s genuinely all that, he just has a sharp mind under all that.

sample 1 | Clack. Clack. Tap. Clack. Click. Clack. Ding.

The typewriter was an old friend, a gift from a mentor who overlooked his humble beginnings and encouraged his curiosity and desire to share. Thrown from a train, sent flying across the deck in a storm, rattled from a mortar shell landing close by – come hell or high water, the thing endured, minus a “z” key that somehow snapped off, and rest of the letters worn off by grit and overuse. The sound of keys pressing, the slide, and the ringing tone that announced that he needs push it back was quite soothing, and it was easy to be lost within a rhythm of writing, whether it was trying to get a story from his childhood into something Hollywood would accept, or like he was doing now – outlining the reason why one should never call a ‘Turkish Coffee’ a ‘Turkish Coffee’ in Greece.

Nevermind it was the Arabics who created that style in the first place, he chuckled to himself at his own joke, glancing up surreptitiously as he gently pulls the sheet out from the machine. No one coming in, and the creaky halls are silent, taking the chance – he slips the flask out of his coat pocket, and starts to unscrew the cap, breathing in the sharp, nose-clearing scent chased by the smokey sweetness of molasses. There are drinks that are easier to conceal from suspicious noses, but ever since he had a taste of añejo in Madrid, he found he strongly preferred rum over all other alcoholic drinks.

And it’s a better exorcist for nightmares then the tongue-numbing patent medicines the coach recommends, and far more effective than prayer. A sudden rap upon the door jolted him out of his thoughts, the flask nearly slipping out of his hand before he catches it, fingers slipping over the cap as he tries to close it and hide it back within his pocket in the same motion as he pushes his hair back – again uselessly trying to push his cowlick back down.

Good going, Sinbad – spill the dark rum on your shirt, that way no one would ever know of your tipple, he thought to himself sarcastically as his amber eyes darted to the door.

“Mr. Tison…?” A student’s voice called out after a moment, sounding lost. “Is this a bad time to see you?”

“Of course not, please come in – I was just putting away test materials,” He calls out, cursing his carelessness as he fixes a smile on his face, after all it sounds like the young man needed it. “Can’t let you have an unfair advantage, now can I?” Sinbad laughs as the door opens, standing up to pull a chair out.

“Yes sir…”

“Now then, tea… coffee? Teacher’s privilege, I can share some if you promise not to tell the others.” He glances back after checking to see that the halls were empty before he shut the door. “So, what seems to be the trouble?”

Singularity: A term Sinbad doesn't use himself, but one consistently applied to him by Magis and Magician. What it generally means is that he has an incredibly large amount of life-force within his body and the ability to carve out his own fate in the world.

Rukh: The life energy of the world, the memory of the world and everything that lives in it - normally invisible to ordinary humans unless they're gathered in an unusually massive amount, otherwise only Magicians and Magis can see them unaided. They appear as butterflies or birds made from pure white light. In a Pan-Fandom game, anyone that can sense/detect magic will see his life energy as Rukh

Black Rukh: The corrupted birds born from beings who despaired and cursed their fate. Blackened Rukh cannot return to the Great Flow after the person's death, but instead lingers. The more Black Rukh there are, the closer the world comes to utter destruction. Just because someone has Black Rukh, it doesn't mean they're a bad person, just they can no longer endure the life that they have - it's just often times, someone who has "Fallen into Depravity" would lash out at everyone they viewed had caused them curse their fate in the first place. It is possible to only be partly fallen - Sinbad is the only known example. And it's shown this can be artificially induced in someone, and because it's unnatural they suffer even more then someone that has fallen naturally - and if Judal's a typical example, they would suffer from great mental instability and memory problems.

Magi: They are the Sorcerers of Creation, and Beloved by the Rukh. They are the highest level of magic-users in existence, as not only they have a high amount of magical energy innately, the Rukh freely gather around them and replenish them. Normally there are only suppose to be three Magis at one time, and they exist to pick a worthy person to become a King that change the world. Aside from choosing kings, their most unique ability is the power to raise dungeons for potential kings to conquer and prove their mettle. Magis are the only things that can truly reincarnate if Yunan is to be believed.

Magoi: What Rukh is called when it's gathered in a single person, it's their life energy, and the source of magical ability. Fanalis have low magoi amounts by default, while Sinbad has nearly unlimited Magoi as a Singularity, and Magis have a similar amount due to their status as being beloved by the Rukh. It is possible to overuse one's own Magoi and die.

Great Flow: The concept of that everything is part of one, so when something dies, the Rukh disperses among the masses, their memory still exist within the individual Rukh and can manifest as a kind of ghost with a Magi's help, but otherwise the rukh helps to form the life of a new being - though this isn't true reincarnation, as only the lifeforce is used, not the memory of an individual.

Fate: It's a little complicated in how the series use it, but it's not true prestidigitation (where everything is predetermined regardless of what you do), but just a general or default path one's life might take or a universal "Truth" in how the world functions.

Al-Thamen: or Al-Sarmen, depending on translation. They are a group of magicians who cursed the fate of Alma Torran - the world that existed before the current one, who were so angry and bitter over Solomon's actions not only did they destroy Alma Torran, but they hopped over to the current world to destroy it out of pure spite to erase all vestiges of the man's existence. They manipulate events to create as much strife and misery as possible in order to create enough Black Rukh to summon an abomination to end all existence. Many of the members are virtually ghosts, only kept alive by dolls, which allows them to return no matter how many times they 'die' long as the doll is intact. Sinbad despises these people above all else and will kill them without hesitation.

Name: Sinbad (given the surname Tisoni for the au)
Canon: Magi: Labyrinth of Magic
Overview: An idealistic peasant boy with exceptionally strong life energy made seven djinns his servants, found a country, and fights against an organization that's out to destroy the world while struggling with his own morality. At first brush he's goofy, friendly and irresponsible, but he's super-protective of his charges and more cunning then one thinks.
Enrollment Status: full-time Literature Teacher and can be a substitute teacher for Political Science or History if the need arises.
Species: Djinn
AU Overview: Sinbad was one of the 72 Djinns summoned and bound to King Solomon's service back in ancient times. The ancient king knew he would eventually die, but suspecting that many of the Djinns would be enraged by being made to build the Great Temple and would rampage free in the world once he's gone, he cast an extremely powerful spell that bound them to all to trinkets from his treasury and scattered across the world, with every trapped Djinn being compelled to grant the wishes of those who possess their vessel for good or ill until the term is up, then they were stuck in their vessels until another person finds them - with the intent that humans would eventually free the good Djinns from eternal servitude.

Sinbad was known as the 'Genie of the Sword' or the 'Djinn of Seven Wishes' with powers best suited to warfare and matters of state, and he often found himself in the service of kings and tyrants, sometimes when his new master killed the old one, but just as often spending centuries trapped in his sword between summons. This changed in the 19th century when a band of traveling performers found his vessel. He was shocked by their lack of ambition and their selfless kindness, using him to make life better for the cities they pass through or in self-defense - and needless to say, eternally grateful they used their last wish to free him.

He picked up a love for performance and stories from them, and spent the first century of freedom roaming the world, and often finding himself falling into the social circles of artists and politicians. At some point not long after St. Augustus' founding, he was picked out and was offered a job as an instructor, and Sinbad accepted it on a lark - expecting that he'll move o within a year, but discovered he genuinely enjoyed helping kids succeed and stayed on ever since, shoving all the gruntwork on the TAs passing through and gaining a reputation as the 'fun teacher'.

Power-wise, he can manipulate the elements of Lightning, Wind, and Ice, and manipulate sound waves, and gifted with the natural ability of flight. The wishes he once granted were all due to manipulating and combining these elements or using his wits to procure it by alternate means if he can't do it himself.

Djinns function:
-The forms of the Djinns change between being bound and being freed. When bound - they are gigantic in size, possessing a third eye and are blue in color, but then become more human in size and appearance when freed, though the skin around wounds will turn blue even on a free genie. All Djinns have a vessel, but they're all objects that existed in the classical period. Theory is the bound form is their true shape, and Solomon's binding prevented them from altering their form.

-When bound, the Djinns cannot exist outside their vessels when they're not currently serving a master in facilitating a wish. Freed Djinns can exist outside their vessels nigh-indefinitely, but will automatically return to it when gravely wounded. Either way, when inside a vessel, they require someone from the outside to free them. Yes, they can drag other people with them inside their vessels, but it's generally not a good idea for obvious reasons.

-The number of wishes a Djinn can grant varies on the individual genie, the most common numbers are one wish and three wishes. Sinbad was able to grant seven wishes, but since he's freed, he is no longer under any obligation to grant anyone a wish, and he very rarely wants to.

-Wishes Cannot do the following: Kill someone (though a clever wish-maker can make a wish that can indirectly lead to someone getting killed - they can't go 'I Wish X would drop dead!'), rewrite past events, alter a person's memory, personality or emotions, raise the dead, wish for more wishes (attempting to do so will turn any Djinn hostile to their master). Bound Djinns are compelled to obey wishes that are within their power to grant, though of course how faithfully they follow the Wish-maker's intent is dictated by the Djinn's view of their master and how carefully the wish is worded. And all wishes must start with "O Djinn of the (Vessel) Grant Me..." to avoid accidental wishes.

-The Vessel is what keeps them in the mortal and partly why they're essentially unkillable by ordinary means (though high enough magic will flat out kill them). Destroy the vessel with the Djinn inside and they're banished in the spirit world, destroy the vessel while the Djinn's outside of it, and they can be kill like any mortal.

-It's rumored that someone can bind a freed Djinn back into servitude, but few people know how to do so, though it might be connected to the lost Temple of Solomon.

Destiny?:

The man with the sun-colored hair and green clothes said he was Yunan - and as I found out later - a Magician. A Sorcerer of Creation, performing miracles out of nothing and everything because he was beloved by the Rukh - the Prana of the world around us. He was strange, hiding in a barrel because the light's too bright, but there's a gentle air about him, and he moves effortless as if he was an aspect of nature itself, a bird given human form.

He smiled at me, and explained that I was different - I was special, and because I protected the caravan without considerations for reward that I interested him, and the way I helped my fellow villagers confirmed something.

Yunan led me outside while my mother slept, and touched the back of my hand with a finger - I remembered yelling in shock as all my veins lit up - bright as the midday sun, with countless larger motes throbbing like firelight, then like that it was gone from view, but I could feel a dull throb under my skin.

"A magic circuit," He explained, answering the question I hadn't even given voice to. "It's the lifeline of magic potential, the amount of Rukh within you is exceptional, and even untrained and ignorant of your magic as you are, you still managed to draw upon it in order to predict the movements of those bandits. You don't belong here - a life of an ordinary fisherman, you could do much more out in the world. Yes... this world needs someone with a kind heart and eyes that seek justice like yours do."

"With that power of yours, you could be a King - one that could make this world better. Here - take my hand and I'll show you where you can get started - and attain your first subject."

the sufferings of war:

becoming king:

being rejected by Yunan:

"Yunan?" I asked, surprised to see that he has not aged a single day since our last meeting.

"It was a mistake," He looked at me with a strange look in his eyes, it took me minutes to realize why that weird gaze was familiar: it was Fear.

"What was a mistake?" I asked - why was he looking at me? Was he afraid of me? But why?

"Telling you to be a King. You were exceptional My King, a level of Magecraft few could match, Charisma to make enemies into loyal generals, the Will to carry on despite pain and grief. You are too Perfect."

A slap to the face would've been kinder. "Isn't that good? Wouldn't people want a good King?"

"Not like you - You warp people. Even without meaning to, you snare and entrapped people to your will, even if it destroys them, they are glad to do anything to get your approval. Even the Djinns who do not share lightly had complied to joint-servitude so freely. If you were a remote King who kept himself from the people - this would not be so bad, but you walk among them, you empathize with them, they see you as their Friend and Father-Figure, your kindness is a slow poison that will kill all those dazzled by your presence."

"But - I cannot pull myself away from people. No one can live in isolation."

"Yes that is true, but you act as a friend, your heart bleeds and ache like an ordinary man, but you have started to think like a King - you don't befriend people on a whim, you befriend them by how useful they are to your goals."

"That's a Lie! I would never-"

"And your Will - in less then seven years - a thriving kingdom, One of the most prosperous trade ports in this corner of the world on an island deemed useless by all. It's an act impossible for anyone else. I now fear what may happen if you bear it all on the world at large." He continued, as if he did not hear me.

"Yunan - I have no intentions of ever going to War." I started, finding myself trembling with rage, my hands balling into fists. How dare he! He was the one who inspired me to reach beyond the horizon, who taught me magic!

"Do you think China or Byzantine, or the Kingdom of Jerusalem, or any eager Nation would not take a chance at claiming this place? You will fight - you will win, but they have the numbers to try to win by attrition. I know you, King - You will tire of playing the defensive war, You know very well a young country will lose such a game. You will use your economic prowess to force nations to be your allies, or choke others into ruins. You will seek to cripple your enemies, you will drive them from your shoes and to their own. You will throw your Magecraft at them to confuse and scatter them even though many of your enemies are ordinary humans. Your People will follow you to the ends of the earth, mowing down all who do you wrong.

And others will fight, thousands will die. The moment you start to preemptively defend Sindria is the moment you spark a great and terrible war that could destroy whole countries. Once you set your course, you never give up. Your stubborn desire to set things to what you think is "right" will drive you to atrocity.

That is why I said you were a mistake." A knife to the back would have been kinder. Suddenly, he turned and walked away - I reached but grasp nothing. "You are no longer My Student or My King, Sinbad."

"Yunan! Wait!"

And he was gone, as if he was never there. I knew right then I would not see him again.

being corrupted:

The circle was completed, candles - half black and half white laid out and lit - glowed in the darkness of the moonless night.

"Please Sinbad, reconsider it!" A voice - a young woman called out from behind me. I didn't need to turn around to know that it was Yam. Normally, I would heed her advice as she knew far more about magecraft then I, having spent a lifetime learning whereas I picked it up piecemeal and the spare few lessons Yunan gave. But not now - this was too important, to urgent. "There are powers that should not be used! I beg you, please stop this!"

"I'm sorry - but this is our one chance of stopping Al-Thamen in their tracks," I answered with a heavy sigh. "I know the risks involved, but I am the only one who-"

"But your majesty! Just-"

"Please do not make me give you a Royal command, the less Magus there are present, the better. If something were to go wrong, I need you to save me, all right?" I turned to give her a beaming smile, full of confidence and assurance. I knew I was laying it on heavy, she started to shake her head to protest, but she could not overcome the aura I projected, so she sagged and left the chamber.

She wasn't too far away - but far enough. I stepped into the sigil, lightly as not to disturb or mar the seal, and raised my hands out - east to west and started chanting - putting myself in a rhythm in both speech and breath to match the beat of my own heart.

"O Rukh - O Spirit of the Heavens and Earth - Spirit all who lives and had ever lived.
I beseech thee to bring from the Abyss the tainted Rukh
I who am pure of spirit and of earthly body seek that is not
Rukh that fell upon depravity and despair hear my command!
Take from thy current masters their spirits to still their limb
Take from them their prana so no spell they shall cast
Take from them their souls to trouble our world no more -"

My vision grew darker then black, as the impossible happened - butterflies formed entirely from pitch-black light swam around my body - blinding whiteness as similar beings flooded out of my body. My knees buckled, sweat drenched my forehead, but I forced myself on.

"O Rukh that flows within all that lives and had ever lived!
O Rukh of lives that perished in sorrow and despair!
Listen to I - Sinbad Bedrpoor - Magus and Student of Magi Yunan
I commend thee to rend the ones who call themselves Al-Thamen -"

I could hear myself screaming - and pain, pain unbelievable - a million needles stabbing into my skin with the heat of the sun, and acid dripped over my sword arm and face. There was no vision, no light no darkness just pain and twisting. My heart twisted tight in my chest, the image of my father being dragged away by soldiers sheared itself in my inner eye unbidden, then my mother dying in my arms, the villagers screaming it was my disappearance and neglect that caused it.

Why? Why... why must this happen?! I thought I heard myself scream, but it didn't sound like me. It sounded like a dying beast, something inhuman.

Then nothing. Then warmth, soft hands on aching skin, then vision. Hand mottled and stained, burns to touch. dark fire burning through veins, no pain but power, but wrongness, corruption eating, consuming - filling power in the voids it created, twisting around my heart like a strangling vine. Then voices and footfalls - sudden light in pitch blackness, blinding - hurts. My eyes stung and the vision blurs, and there was wetness on my cheeks.

"Sin! Oh Sin, what have you done to yourself?"

What had I done?

"Djinns, or alternately Jinn or Genie. They are known as Nature Spirits - created out of smoke and wind whilst humans are created out of clay, according to Islamic tradition. They are usually mischievous shapeshifters capable of possession and performing tasks for a specific human - usually taking the form of retrieving objects of the human's desire or cast illusions to his advantage.

There is said that there are far more powerful djinns - 72 of them to be exact, each one with a name. They are also known as Demons in Christian tradition and are of a higher category of Nature Spirit, being considered almost like minor gods in power and prestige. They have an 'Authority' over their specific domain - an Element and a Characteristic, allowing otherwise impossible miracles to occur simply by will alone, but they are restrained by that they are only allowed to exert such Authority when submitting to a master. Because of this limitation, these special djinns will only submit to someone that suits their particular personality. There are stories that one could use powerful mind control magic to force a djinn to accept a master they otherwise would have refused, but if such an ability exist, it is a well-guarded secret or had been lost in time."

The only one known who could tame all 72 djinns is the legendary Magician King Solomon, who the djinns feared and respected so greatly that they continued to slave away at the temple even after he expired - until a lowly worm gnawed at the staff that held the Magician's body upright. Once his corpse fell, they realized that their fear of the mighty king made them blind to the truth and they fled the realm, never to be united again."

"Baal, the name of a demon or djinn in the Lesser Key of Solomon. He is listed first, A djinn whose domain is Heroic Feats and Wrath, and manifests with the element of lightning. He is said to seek those with the strongest will as his master."

"Focalor, the name of a demon or djinn in the Lesser Key of Solomon. He is the 42nd named djinn. The domain of this djinn involves rule and submission, and he enforces his authority with wind. A djinn who seeks one who understands the nature of both a king and a subject."

"Zepar, the name of a demon or djinn in the Lesser Key of Solomon. He is the 16th named djinn. The domain of this djinn is unknown - though surviving scraps imply discord might be part of it's domain, though it is known to use "Sound" magic to enforce it's master's will. As it's true domain is unknown, so is the quality it seeks in a master."

"Djinn Equip - A Magecraft Techinque seen in use between 1000 CE and 1400 CE, said to be taught to the Magus of the era by the last true Magicians - those capable of True Magic - the last known user of the technique was the elder brother of Emperor Souzin Ren of China, who was assassinated during a power struggle for the throne, and the secrets of the technique died with him. The Association had forbidden any attempts to create the lost art of 'Djinn Equip', as they believe that a mistake in the ritual can have catastrophic consequences.

Djinn Equip is a form of summoning and spiritual possession - known as letting the spirit 'ride you' in some circles. However, unlike traditional Spirit Riding, the one being 'Ridden' is in full control of his or her faculties during the period. It is done by taking a contracted being - typically a djinn as the name implies, but demons and other phantasmal creatures can be used, and compressing it's power into the Magus' body, and allowing it to expand over their body in a controlled fashion.

The result is a physical transformation of the Magus' body, a merging of the spirit and human form, and the full magical might of the Djinn is added to the mage, allowing them to perform earth-shattering feats.

A weaker variation is known as 'Djinn Weapon', where the vessel that contains the spirit is instead expanded into a powerful weapon - though oftentimes, the user's hands transform in order to safely wield the weapon's power. This was often the first step for Mages who wished to learn the full technique, or those whose Magic Circuit are too weak to support a spirit in their body, or want a little power without excessive strain upon their forms.

The known users of Djinn Equip in history included The Kou and Haku Branch of the Imperial Ren Family of China, Third Prince Alibaba of the Persian Empire, King Sinbad of Sindria, Byzantium General Ignatius Alexius, and Varangian Guard Captain Muu Alexius. As only named djinns or demons are known to be used, it is estimated that the true number of magus capable of Djinn Equip techinque could range up to 72 in number, but most likely lower as exceptional mages may be master of several djinns, it is said one of these users had up to Seven Djinns under his control."

Sindria result:

Sindria was the Crusade-era name for what is now known as Krakatoa. A volcanic island that had lain dormant until 1883, which all but obliterated the island, leaving a small archipelago and a new caldera in it's wake.

From a period of 1100 to the mid 1300s, it was a kingdom and prosperous trade port that fell in decline from uncertain ruler ship. Historical records agreed that the first people upon the island were refugees fleeing from Berber Islamic Conquests, and those escaping the first Crusades - Christian and Muslim fighters who grew sick of fighting, Jews escaping massacres, escaped slaves and civilians who lost everything.

King Sinbad the Sailor

(Est. 1073? - 19 March 1113?[1]), The founder of Sindria, a merchant and explorer had arrived on what is now modern day Krakatoa with eight crew members and refugees from North Africa and Middle East. There are many mysteries about the first and greatest(citation?) king of the island-nation.

EARLY CHILDHOOD

Any records of his birth was lost to history, and according to contemporaries: "His Highness rarely spoke of his family - a father that was war veteran and fisherman, and of a sickly mother, but he speaks with great fondness. Any further attempts to press him for the location of his birth, what ruler he once held allegiance to, and his reason for leaving his country were futile for he would smile and recite a story from his many adventures, or a tale he once heard whilst traveling, so enthralled were we that only hours later did we realize that we never received the answer we sought after."[2].

It is reasonable to assume from name and the language he used the most is that he was Persian in origin. See THEORY OF ORIGINS for further speculation.

REIGN OF SINDRIA
Rumors of Impiety

While nominally a Muslim, it was a poorly kept secret that he wasn't a particularly pious one. His drinking and womanizing exploits were scandalous to the Islamic World, and a subject of amusement and embarrassment to his subjects. Despite political and personal pressure, the King never wed, and no child was born out of his many affairs.

Shortly after his declaration of Sindria's existence and it's refusal to take part in either Crusades or the Islamic Conquest had made him few friends but many enemies. Rumors began in the West of how his kingdom avoided war with Witchcraft, and his already outrageous behavior by Islamic standards made it easy for them to declare him an apostate. When the Chinese Invasion of Sindria in 1110 and the Byzantine Invasion of Sindria of 1110 were repelled despite overwhelming odds, the accusations of witchcraft and devil-consorting grew stronger and stronger. Those who did not believe in sorcery believed he held some kind of unfair and dishonorable advantage.

ABDICATION AND DISAPPEARANCE

It came to a shock to the people of Sindria when on October 22, 1112 Sinbad announced from his palace balcony as of this day, he will no longer be ruler of the kingdom, for he deemed as desirable as their land was - that he was the source of their constant sieges and political turmoil and introduced them to their new ruler - Jafar the Regent, his most trusted and reportedly most politically savvy member of his entourage.

With that, he took to the wheel of his personal ship and departed, his destination only known to Jafar and himself. The people continued on, with no word about Sinbad's last voyage. Then suddenly on March 19 1113, Jafar the Regent broke open a scroll left to him by the King as previously instructed[where?] and read it out loud, it was a declaration that if he had not returned by the designated time that he had died on his secret mission and the scroll continued instructions for his funeral and apology he written, for how he let the country down.[7]

Without a body to bury, the people of Sindria took to paying their respects at the docks 'threw enough flowers and dust into the seas as so the water could not be seen'.[8]

MOTTO:

"Neither Conquerors nor Conquered" - the motto of the extinct nation of Sindria - a reference to the country's official stance of armed neutrality, they would never attack aggressively towards another state but will resist all attempts at conquest.

Sinbad's background and general details

Appearance: 6' tall with an very toned, athletic frame (weighing about 183lbs according to official sources), Sinbad has an imposing figure compare to others around him. As a rule, he dresses like a sultan - a small turban with long, flowing robes over baggy pants and wearing what appears to be an excessive amount of jewelry (almost all of them are Djinn metal vessels except for his earrings). Even when dressed down, he prefers flowing, loose fitting clothes, generally leaving his arms bared.

He has purple hair that goes past his knees that he wears in a loose ponytail, with a stubborn strand that will stick straight up if he isn't wearing a hat, but bends to the side if he's wearing one. Sinbad's eyes are gold, under slightly thick eyebrows and he tends to carry an easy smile on his face.

Sexuality: 1-2 on the Kinsey scale, far more likely to act on same-sex attraction when drunk then sober. (Kink List here)

For Daemonism: Sinbad's daemon takes the form of a Barbary lioness with strange dark splotches over half of her face and down her side, other then facial splotch the rest are never in the same place. These splotches represent the fact that half of his rukh (basically Magi's manifestation of life energy/soul) turned black and corrupted.

Her name "Najiyah" is arabic for safe/deliverer. She acts as his conscience, chiding him for his manipulative ways, but does not discourage him.
